Side, across flats and across corners

The input is one side of a regular hexagon measured between fold lines. Across corners equals twice the side. Across flats equals side × √3. These are different widths, so avoid describing either simply as the diameter.

For a 25 mm side, the across-corners value is 50 mm and the across-flats value is about 43.30 mm. Six 25 mm panels plus a 10 mm seam tab make a 160 mm-wide strip. The example column height is 90 mm.

Try the object at the section's tightest width

A round or irregular object should be compared with the space between opposite flats, not only the widest corner-to-corner distance. Paper thickness and folded tabs reduce practical room. A paper section sketch helps you choose the orientation before building the full-height mockup.

Inspect all six panels and the two end faces in the preview. The end face connects to a wall; small closure tabs join the remaining edges without becoming additional full side panels.

Keep six equal faces

Score each long fold and preform the band gently. Join the seam without twisting the column, then fold and glue one end at a time. Check the opposite sides before the final bond sets. Use a trial in the intended stock to assess end-tab overlap and access; geometric dimensions alone do not establish finished fit.
